It’s been almost 10 years since Sustainable Development Goals – or SDGs – were developed. The 17 goals, created by the United Nations in 2012 and adoped by all UN member states in 2015, were designed as a ‘call to action to end poverty and inequality, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy health, justice and prosperity’. But almost a decade on, just 15 per cent of the goals are set to be achieved by 2030. The UN Global Compact says the push for corporates to reach sustainability goals has been derailed by the COVID crisis, rising cost of capital and geopolitical instability.
