French Prime Minister Michel Barnier is facing a vote of no confidence from both left and right-wing parties, after the French government used a constitutional power to bypass parliamentary approval for its controversial budget. The Australian National University’s Dr Romain Fathi says there is a ‘small chance’ a vote of no confidence will fail because left-wing parties’ differing stances threaten the prospect of a majority in the French parliament.
