Peter Dutton’s call to ditch 2030 targets if elected are ‘irresponsible and destructive’
Independent MP Sophie Scamps has criticised the Opposition leader Peter Dutton’s comments over the weekend on his dismissal of the 2030 climate target if elected.
On Saturday The Weekend Australian revealed Mr Dutton would be opposing Labor’s target of a 43 per cent emissions cut by 2030 in a break from the Paris Agreement.
Ms Scamps claimed the comments made by the Coalition were “irresponsible and destructive”.
“I think what the Coalition is doing, what Dutton is doing is irresponsible and destructive.
“We’ve even had the large energy companies coming out and saying we need long-term certainty, businesses need certainty they need to be able to make those investment decisions.
“And this flip-flopping, this backwards looking, this backstepping is not the way to go for our economy or the future of Australia.”
